City lawyers boost funds for mental health charity
City lawyers will give a £45,000 boost to the coffers of LawCare in a bid to tackle rising mental health problems in the profession and improve working practices.
The City of London Law Society and the City of London Solicitors’ Company announced a three-year partnership with the mental health charity, which provides free, confidential support to those working in the legal profession.
The funding boost comes following research last year from LawCare that exposed the scale of the problems faced by lawyers. It found that nearly 60 per cent of legal professionals reported poor mental wellbeing. Almost 79 per cent said that they regularly worked beyond contracted hours, and more than half said they could see themselves leaving their workplace within five years.
