City of London Law Society, City of London Solicitors’ Company and LawCare announce three-year strategic partnership to support the legal sector

London, 16 April 2026 – The City of London Law Society (CLLS), the City of London Solicitors’ Company (CLSC) and LawCare have today announced a three-year strategic partnership combining sustained funding with sector-wide engagement to support those working across the legal profession.

As part of this, CLLS will contribute £10,000 per annum from 2026 to 2028, with CLSC committing £5,000 per annum over the same period. Together, this represents a combined investment of £45,000 into LawCare’s work, supporting individuals across the legal sector and strengthening the evidence base around working practices and pressures in the profession.

At the core of the partnership is a joint commitment to LawCare’s 25 Club, through which organisations provide multi-year funding to enable continued delivery of frontline support and sector-wide resources.

The 25 Club brings together organisations committed to supporting mental health, improving working practices and ensuring that those working in law are able to access timely, specialist support when needed. This supports LawCare’s provision of free, confidential emotional support, alongside its work with organisations to improve workplace practices.

The partnership also establishes a programme of practical engagement across the City legal community. This will include joint events, the integration of LawCare into senior forums, and the development of co-badged insights reflecting the lived experience of those working in the profession.

Recent sector data highlights the scale of the challenge. LawCare’s Life in the Law 2025 research shows that nearly 60% of legal professionals report poor mental wellbeing, almost 79% regularly work beyond contracted hours, and more than half could see themselves leaving their workplace within five years. These findings point to persistent structural pressures within the profession.

This partnership brings together funding, engagement and shared insight to support both immediate needs and longer-term improvements in working practices across the legal sector. It reflects a collective commitment across the City legal community to engage with the realities of modern legal practice in a consistent and practical way.

Patrick McCann, Chief Executive of the City of London Law Society, said:

“This partnership reflects a clear responsibility to engage with the realities of working in law, not just at a headline level but in a way that is sustained and practical. LawCare provides both direct support to individuals and a clearer understanding of the pressures that sit within the profession. By committing to a multi-year partnership, and working alongside the City of London Solicitors’ Company, we are supporting that work in a way that is consistent, visible and grounded in evidence. This is about contributing to a profession that can operate effectively over time, supported by the right structures and understanding. I’d encourage other legal sector organisations to find out more about, and similarly support, LawCare’s important work. We have much to learn and do.””

Peter King, Chair of the Charity Committee of the City of London Solicitors’ Company, said:

“As we talk to our members, who are solicitors working in the City at all levels in larger and smaller firms as well as in-house in banks and other organisations, we are acutely aware of the pressures under which they work.  Our charity, which receives donations from our membership, aims to support other charities which work in areas relevant to the law and the City of London.  For these reasons we are delighted to support this partnership and we look forward to further engagement with LawCare and CLSC for the benefit of our members and all solicitors working in the City.”

Elizabeth Rimmer, Chief Executive Officer of LawCare, said:

“We’re delighted to welcome CLLS as the first LawCare Leader in our 25 Club, with a £10K annual commitment. It’s a great example of leadership and, alongside the support from the City of London Solicitors’ Company, shows a real drive to improve mental health across the legal sector. Through this partnership, we can increase our impact, better support people facing the challenges of day-to-day legal practice, and help build a healthier, more sustainable sector. We’d love to see more of the legal community get involved.”
