City Law Society launches new SQE training scholarship

Law360 writes about the launch of the Stephen Denyer Scholarship.

The City of London Law Society said that it has kick-started a new scholarship to honor the legal sector leader Stephen Denyer, a bid to expand access to the solicitors' profession and strengthen social welfare law services across the northeast of England.

The Stephen Denyer Scholarship will fund four aspiring social welfare solicitors through the solicitors' qualifying examination. Denyer, a respected international legal figure and longtime advocate for access to justice, died in January 2024.

The body that represents City solicitors and law firms helped launch the scholarship alongside the City of London Solicitors' Company, the Social Welfare Solicitors Qualification Fund and the North East Law Centre. The initiative is being created in partnership with Denyer's family, which has provided a £50,000 ($65,500) donation to fund it.
